Taxidermy Budgie Course - 19th March 2017
We are very excited to be hosting our first taxidermy courses of 2017 this coming March.
The course will again be taken by Kim Zoe Wagner of KWZ Taxidermy. Originally born in Switzerland, but living and working in London as a taxidermist since 2009. Taught by Polly Morgan and George Jamieson, Kim has worked on a variety of specimens from canaries to a baby giraffe for various clients including Pam Hogg, Lily Cole and Derren Brown.
"Kim is simply the only young taxidermist I know who has learned her craft the proper way; through years of hard graft and patience. She is in a different league to the new generation of taxidermy teachers. I would urge anyone who is serious about doing taxidermy well to leap at the chance to learn from her; she is in it for the long haul."
- Polly Morgan
The animals Kim use have not been killed for the purpose of taxidermy.
The full course comes in two parts. Part one is a demonstration taken by Kim on a magpie or a crow. This will take place on the 16th July from 7 - 9.30pm in our Colston Street Store. This will prepare you with the knowledge to be able to start your full course and you will know more of what to expect. It also allows for you to see how a bigger bird differs, ready for any future projects you may want to uptake. There will be chance through the evening to stand up and get close to the action, ask questions and have a few Gin and Tonics too.
There will be a maximum of 30 people at the demonstration evening.
There are two options of dates for part 2 of the course. Either the 12th March or the 19th March. IF YOU BOOK ON THIS PAGE YOU ARE BOOKING PART 2 FOR THE 19th March 2017.
Part two is a full day, running from 9am - 6pm (rough finishing time) on Sunday the 19th March at our store at 51 Colston Street, Bristol.
The course will be in a small group with a maximum of 5 people. Kim will start at the very beginning explaining the equipment and the sourcing of specimens. You will then each be shown what to do and then taxidermy a budgie yourself. Kim will go through everything as a step by step process and allowing time for one on one questions and individual help.
Each participant will complete a budgie that will be theirs to take home.
We will not provide any mounting for the budgie if you have a dome in mind or a piece for it to be mounted too please bring it to the course. If not Kim will let you know the best places to source any Taxidermy equipment and accessories.
Lunch will be provided by the fabulous Workhouse Cafe, please let us know if you have any dietary requirements beforehand, drinks will also be available throughout the day. This is all included in the price.
All equipment and specimens will be provided, please do not bring anything of your own, except a notebook to write down the process.
